Prejudices and biases : The Silent Killers of Relationships
August 27, 2024It feels like I am in a dream
November 10, 2024Do you ever get tired of people around you? No matter how close they are they have zero tolerance when it comes to their interests, everyone becomes a self-centered prick. I started to think that it is more of a human thing coded well in our genes through millions of years of evolution, I am not the kind of person who likes to exclude themselves from the equation when it comes to making such stereotypes, so I think I do have the same thing in me when it comes to my own interests.
Never ending hunger for satisfaction, need to seek attention from others, utter search for validation from people who we also validate. Part of all this makes sense to the rational mind while also the ethical or should I say emotional piece of me finds it rather silly. It makes sense to protect your own well being and interests as our brains were wired and evolved in doing so over the course of zillion years. Yet if you look at that perspective, you are here for no reason at all, not making the slightest difference in the world apart from the one you live in your head. I hear you saying what a single person could do to make a difference in this world? While you are not wrong about this, maybe an analogy will help you understand the matter from my point of view. The Starfish: taken from Loren Eiseley, it tells of a person throwing starfish back into the sea. When told it wouldn’t make much difference given the thousands stranded, the person tosses another and says, “It made a difference to that one. Moral of the story is sometimes even the slightest change you make in someone’s life, might mean the world to them. Truth is you do not know how big of a difference the good deed you do might make, you just do it and let the domino effect touch the lives of millions of others, you never know a seed planted today is a forest tomorrow. Even if it is not, you just did something meaningful not for just yourself but also for others. Remember people like you and me are not in this game for the applause or recognition, but to leave the world a bit better than we found it. Whether it’s a whisper of change or a roar, every good deed counts.
